Escape Room Etiquette: Dos and Don’ts

We pride ourselves in making engaging, fun escape rooms and following some basic dos and don’ts can help to ensure that everybody in your team enjoys the game to the fullest. Let’s dive in and make your escape room experience as fun as can be!

Dos

1. 1. Do Communicate: Share clues and any ideas that you have with members of your team. Communication is key for solving puzzles quickly and efficiently.
   2. Do Respect The Rules: Follow the instructions provided to you by the game master when you are being briefed on what to do. They’re there to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable time.
   3. Do Work as a Team: Collaborate with you teammates. Assign roles and combine strengths to take different challenges.
   4. Do Keep Track of Clues: Organise the clues that you find and keep track of what’s been used and what hasn’t. It will help to prevent confusion between you and teammates.
   5. Do Listen to the Games Master: Pay attention during the initial briefing to understand the rules and your objective. Ask questions if anything is unclear. The game master’s guidance is crucial.
   6. Do Stay Calm & Positive: Maintain a positive attitude, even when puzzles seem difficult. Stay calm and encourage your teammates.
   7. Do Observe Your Surroundings: Look carefully at every last detail in the room. Sometimes the smallest details can be most crucial.
   8. Do Take Care of Props & Furniture: Handle all props and furniture with care. Escape rooms involve delicate and often rather expensive set-ups.

Don’ts

1. 1. Don’t Force Anything: If it feels like someone doesn’t move or open easily, that probably means that it is not meant to. Forcing items open can break them and ruin the game, easily giving you clues or allowing you to escape much more quickly.
   2. Don’t Use Excessive Strength: Avoid using too much more on locks, doors, or other vital parts of the room. They’re designed to be solved with intellect, not brute force!
   3. Don’t Use Your Phone: Unless you are specifically told otherwise, refrain from using your phone in an escape room. This will ruin the immersive experience for others!
   4. Don’t Ignore Your Teammates: Don’t get so focused on a singular puzzle that you neglect the input and ideas of your teammates.
   5. Don’t Hog the Clues: Share clues and findings with your team instead of keeping them to yourself. Escape Rooms are meant to be collaborative efforts!
   6. Don’t Rush Unnecessarily: Time is an important factor in an escape room however rushing can lead to mistakes. Take a systematic approach when you are solving puzzles.
   7. Don’t Overlook Safety: Follow all safety instructions and do not do anything that could possibly harm you or your teammates!
   8. Don’t Cheat: Don’t try to find the solution to puzzles online or use unauthorised tools or methods. Cheating will ruin the experience of an escape room for everybody playing!
